The poems in this fun-packed book by Francisco Allen (SJC Class of 1969) are about thoughtful, happy and sad times in an era of honesty and innocence. Some were inspired by picture, a word, or an actual event. Tragedy in the Sky recalls six Americans and an Israeli astronauts who went up but never made it back. Mount Carmel portrays a church in Benque through the people walking to and from that old church, giving us thoughts of our mortality; My Critter Friend recalls a breakfast when Francisco was enjoying Johnny cakes baked by his visiting mother. When he saw a squirrel outside searching for food, Francisco walked slowly out of the kitchen and stretched out his hand with a small piece of Johnny cake, which the critter took and then scampered away.
