The fun began before the trip itself. Those staying at the Biltmore met over breakfast and in the lobby while waiting for the bus; those catching the bus at Pallotti gathered there. In both places, the main topic of conversation was what a wonderful time everyone had had at the dinner-dance the night before.

About half of our group arrived by bus. The others came a few at a time in private vehicles. The first order of business after arriving was to greet others already at Bacab, then to stroll through the available seating areas to try to find the coolest possible place to settle.

Shortly before the reunion, José had passed on the warning that doctor flies abound at this time of year. As luck would have it, the rain the two previous days had washed them away so we had no problem with them.

[cayman]

As for other wildlife, a small cayman was sunning itself on a rock, so still no one was sure that it was real until it eventually slipped into the water.

The most aggressive animals we encountered were wishwillies who thought they might be able to share our lunches. They approached the tables but any small movement shooed them away.

It was a lazy day. After all the excitement of the earlier reunion activities, everyone was ready just to relax, to enjoy one last chat with dear friends before heading off in different directions, to savor another tasty meal, and to pose for a few more photos.

And to enhance that last activity, Ruby made sure that the photo-booth frame came on the trip!
